Practicing Dutch with VTS for NT2 – non-native newcomers
- Fee activity € 104.5
- Maximum amount of participants 15
- Duration 1.5h
- Location FOMU
By asking simple questions our guide will help to start a conversation about a photo. The participants will enter into a dialogue with their fellow students, explore FOMU and experiment with language
Each time, they will start with the images they see, and then start working with the camera themselves.
Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is a method used to look at art. This method, developed by cognitive psychologist Abigail Housen, in collaboration with Philip Yenawine, head of education at the Museum of Modern Art in Boston, was originally set up to develop the aesthetic concept among people who have little experience of looking at art.
The questions posed by the FOMU guide encourage participants to carefully observe, formulate, substantiate what they see and actively participate in the conversation. The unique thing about this method is that everyone, regardless of intelligence and (cultural) background, can participate. After all, art does not essentially require background knowledge; it is accessible and timeless. Also, every person interprets art in a different way, so there are no wrong answers. The participants will be stimulated by the guide, which will allow them to express their own vision within the group.
