Dalilla Hermans
Author, theatre director and columnist Dalilla Hermans chooses her favorite image from the FOMU collection: a photograph from the series 'New ways of photographing the New Masai' by Jan Hoek. But why exactly this photograph?
“I’ve noticed that I’m often drawn to images of strong women, women who have presence”, explains Hermans. “This photograph makes me think about the power, the lust for life and the colourful joy of all the black women in the countries around where I grew up.”

FOMU has a collection of more than three million photographic objects. In the FOMU collection you can find negatives, analogue prints, digital photos, equipment, daguerreotypes, glass plates and photographers' archives.
The collection is constantly growing because FOMU consistently purchases work by Belgian talent and acquires photographs that help tell the history of (Belgian) photography. We also purchase international, socially relevant photography.
