Marianne and Pétion live in Haiti and wait impatiently for a call from their son in the USA. As silence sets in, their fears and worries grow, revealing the fractures in their own lives. The promise of the American dream
now seems to elude them, as the line between hope and reality becomes increasingly blurred.

Lenawaru by Angello Faccini 
DOCU, 15'

Moisés, an eleven-year-old Yukuna boy, confronts the fears of the Amazon jungle seeking solace in the Indigenous traditions, healing rituals, and guidance from his grandfather which are the core of the spiritual system for conservation of the territory, and through which the local and Indigenous communities maintain a balanced relationship between people and nature.

Death Day By Sergei Eisenstein
FICTION, 16'

During his adventure in Mexico, Sergei Eisenstein made footage of a Mexican “Death Day” celebration for inclusion in his “Que Viva Mexico!” film project. When the 200,000-plus feet of film he eventually exposed in Mexico was first attempted to be made into a feature film, “Thunder Over Mexico”, the producers excluded the Death Day material for subsequent compilation as an independent short subject. Silent with music track and explanatory English intertitles.

In Cuba, night has fallen. Darkness swallows every crossroads, every house, every human being. Some say the “apagón” (blackout) is here to stay, like everything else on the island. In the night’s gloom, lit only by the glow of portable lamps, life carries on. A priest turns the pages of Genesis. A blind musician sings to his wife a song he wrote for her years ago. A boy challenges his teacher to an endless game of chess. A diver slips into the river with his lantern. Dreams, desires, and visions mingle with the sounds of nature, which, in the silence left by technology, returns stronger than ever. Slowly, reality fades away, giving way to imagination and the unconscious in an intimate, dreamlike experience.

KINO LATINO 

KINOLATINO is the Belgian film festival for Latin American cinema and the flagship project of the association Transit-Transat. The festival brings together film lovers, the Latin American diaspora in Belgium and everyone with an interest in Latin America through a diverse programme. Through film, conversations and presentations, KINOLATINO explores current social issues and creates space for critical reflection and new perspectives. 

ES: Para esta edición de FOMU NIGHT, FOMU invita a KINOLATINO a comisariar y dar forma a la velada. KINOLATINO es el festival de cine belga dedicado al cine latinoamericano y el proyecto insignia de la asociación Transit-Transat. El festival reúne a amantes del cine, a la diáspora latinoamericana en Bélgica y a todas aquellas personas interesadas en América Latina a través de un programa diverso. Mediante películas, conversaciones y presentaciones, KINOLATINO explora temas sociales de actualidad y ofrece un espacio para la reflexión crítica y nuevas perspectivas.
