How do son Antony Penrose and granddaughter Ami Bouhassane view their famous (grand)mother, Lee Miller? In this Artist Talk, they discuss her fascinating life and work.
Model, war correspondent, photographer, and surrealist—Lee Miller (1907-1977) was all of these. As one of the few renowned female photographers of the early 20th century, she made a significant impact on photography.
Antony Penrose, founder of the Lee Miller Archives, brings his mother’s story to life with personal anecdotes from the biography and documentary he dedicated to her. He is joined by his daughter, Ami Bouhassane, co-director of Farleys House & Gallery, the historic home and studio of Lee Miller, now open as a museum and gallery.
Be inspired by exclusive insights into Miller’s life as an artist and woman, shared by the family members who knew her best. This is a unique opportunity to delve deeper into the world of Lee Miller and her unforgettable legacy.
Lee Miller in Print is the first solo exhibition of Lee Miller in Belgium. It offers a fresh perspective on her work and life through her photographs and published articles. At the same time, the exhibition highlights the evolution of photography in the 20th century and the use of photographic images as propaganda during World War II.
