Made In Dublin installation 2019 Doyle Sweeney Donohoe Barry 24

Made In Dublin is a nine-screen, quadrophonic multimedia installation. The installation combines Doyle’s photos, Donohoe’s soundscapes, Barry’s words and narration, and Sweeney’s montage and production design.

Between 2011 and 2018 Eamonn Doyle (IE, 1969) photographed the streets of the Irish capital, Dublin, in the process sketching a particularly modern and multicultural city. He published many of these photographs as three sequential photobooks: ‘I' (2014), ‘ON’ (2015) and ‘End.’ (2016). Together they have come to be known as his Dublin trilogy.

In 2018-2019 Doyle collaborated with his long-time partners in crime, artist Niall Sweeney (IE, 1967) and composer David Donohoe (IE, 1976), as well as celebrated Irish writer Kevin Barry (IE, 1969). Together they created Made In Dublin, a nine-screen, quadrophonic multimedia installation that takes the Dublin trilogy to the next level. Made In Dublin combines Doyle’s photos, Donohoe’s soundscapes, Barry’s words and narration, and Sweeney’s montage and production design. The dramatic sequencing, music and voice reflect the speed and dynamics of a perpetually changing city.

In the 1990s Doyle set up his own record label, D1 Recordings, which has become internationally renowned for its electronic music, festivals and clubs. Made In Dublin employs sampling, cuts, rhythm and repetition to drive an ever-changing narrative. These are techniques used in music production but also in photography, video and cinema. The outcome is a hectic but sophisticated choreography of the urban fabric.
