Come to a special FOMU Night featuring the Belgian film premiere of Treat Me Like Your Mother (directed by Mohamad Abdouni), presented by the artist collective Tashattot.

The evening begins with an introduction by the Tashattot Collective. They will explain how the film connects to their exhibition Tenderly There.

Treat Me Like Your Mother is the first film by photographer and director Mohamad Abdouni. This intimate photo-documentary gives voice to four Lebanese trans women: Em Abed, Jamal Abdo, Antonella and Mama Jad.

Through their personal archives, interwoven with family images from his own collection, the director situates these singular trajectories within four decades of Lebanese political history. From the civil war to recent political upheavals, from the first state-funded gender-affirming surgery in 1997 to the gradual disappearance of safe spaces, the film retraces a little-known queer and national history.

After the screening, FOMU opens its foyer for drinks & bites by Pixel Café, accompanied by selected soundtracks from the film, curated by the artists who composed the film’s music. The exhibition Tenderly There will remain open throughout the evening, as will the FOMU Shop.

Tenderly There by Tashattot Collective

Tenderly There shows how artists from the SWANA region (South-West Asia and North Africa) explore, commemorate, and affirm their experiences with queer intimacy. The exhibition is curated by Tashattot, a cultural collective based in Brussels that supports and brings together artists and cultural practitioners from the SWANA region who have been displaced or are currently navigating life in Europe.
