Where Do We Go From Here? Rethinking Museums Together

NICC is organising an open conversation, specifically for artists and art workers, at FOMU. The aim is to gain a shared understanding of what the reform of the Flemish museum landscape might entail. FOMU is supporting this initiative by making the meeting space available.

The announced reform of the Flemish museum landscape is creating a lot of movement. It raises questions and indignation, but also expectations, hope, and curiosity.

Starting in 2026, six transition processes—each lasting two years—will begin. According to the vision note, these processes will include input from the sector. However, it remains unclear what this input will look like in practice. That is precisely why it is crucial for artists and arts professionals to share what this reform means to them before these processes begin.

What is missing today is a space where these diverse voices are truly heard. That is why NICC and FOMU invite you to an open conversation, specifically for artists and arts professionals. It will be a moment to speak and listen, to allow different perspectives to coexist, and to collectively gain insight into what this reform could entail.

Whether you have questions, doubts, criticism, hope, enthusiasm, or simply a need to understand what lies ahead—your perspective matters. The arts sector is multivoiced, complex, and diverse, and it is precisely this plurality that makes it rich. No voice is too small, too cautious, too critical, or too positive.
Join us. Make your voice heard. Let yourself be moved by the voices of others. All perspectives are welcome and equally important.
