Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Brussels' is considered the greatest film of all time, according to a decennial survey conducted by the British film magazine Sight & Sound among more than 1600 film experts and professionals. Chantal Akerman has long been known in cinephile circles as one of the world's best directors, but earlier this month, the Brussels filmmaker received one of the highest honors possible. The results of this survey place her in the company of none other than Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock, the previous two laureates with 'Citizen Kane' and 'Vertigo,' respectively.

The film follows three days in the life of Jeanne Dielman, a single mother who tries to make ends meet by receiving a different man in her room every day during school hours. Her otherwise mundane life has a meticulously structured routine. All her days follow the same pattern, and she approaches each task in her own detached manner. Until something changes and disrupts the rhythm of her life.

Her Voice - Echoes of Chantal Akerman at FOMU

The group exhibition Her Voice - Echoes of Chantal Akerman brings together new and recent works by seven international artists inspired by the Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman. What does it mean today to be a woman, an artist, a mother, a daughter, or a lover? Through photography, video, and installations, Manon de Boer, Moyra Davey, Gabby Laurent, Frida Orupabo, Joanna Piotrowska, Collier Schorr, and Carmen Winant offer personal answers to that question.

The exhibition runs from October 27, 2023, to March 10, 2024.
